Building Our Regions fund to support regional Queensland infrastructure projects

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has today revealed that Council’s across Queensland will soon be able to apply for their share of the $70 million Building Our Regions fund.

Speaking at the site of the Roma airport upgrade, Premier Annastacia Palasczuk said that applications will be open from January 30th, with projects and funds set to be made available during the middle of the year.

“Thriving regional communities are an important part of keeping our economy ticking over,” she said.

“We’ve brought forward the opening of Round 3 of Building our Regions to generate more jobs and provide a boost to local economies.

“I want to see councils across the state looking at their shovel-ready infrastructure projects and putting in their application for a share of this $70 million.

“Originally applications would have opened mid-year with allocations expected in 2018. By opening the funding round sooner and streamlining the approvals process, we’ll be able to get the money out the door sooner and support more jobs for regional Queenslanders sooner.”

The Building our Regions program has to date funded $150 million worth of major infrastructure projects around Queensland, with over 1300 jobs created for regional communities. Councils and independents have provided a further $275 million to these projects.

Ms Palaszczuk also announced that construction on the Roma Airport upgrade is expected to begin in May and support 16 jobs, thanks to a $2 million commitment from the Government in 2016.
