Building a Stronger South Australia

TUESDAY JULY 02, 2019

The 12th Annual SA Major Projects Conference is taking place in Adelaide on the 30th and 31st July this year as the state focuses on growing the economy and supporting local jobs.

With a massive $11.3 billion towards infrastructure budgeted over the next four years alone, there has never been a better time for the South Australia’s infrastructure sector.

With exciting developments for the state on the agenda, the 2-day conference will bring together over 20 expert speakers and policymakers from the government and private sectors to discuss major infrastructure projects underway as well as those in the pipeline for the state.

Hon Dan van Holst Pellekaan, Minister for Energy and Mining and Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government, Planning, Hon Stephan Knoll will be addressing delegates on day 2 of the conference.

South Australia spends well over $1 billion a year on roads, ports and other productive infrastructure. Better planning, more transparent decision-making and a long-term approach to the prioritisation of infrastructure across the state is critical for its economic and social vitality. With this in mind, the recently established Infrastructure SA provide independent advice to government to enable informed and evidence-based decisions on infrastructure planning, investment, delivery and optimisation. Jeremy Conway, CEO of Infrastructure SA will brief delegates on the state’s first 20-year Infrastructure strategy.

The way that electricity is generated and consumed is changing and smarter ways to manage South Australia’s transmission network holds key to reducing pressure on electricity prices and network costs. ElectraNet has been exploring options to facilitate SA’s energy transformation, while helping to lower electricity prices and improve system security. Rainer Korte, Executive Manager – Asset Management will present on the proposed high capacity interconnector between South Australia and New South Wales, with an added connection to north west Victoria. The project benefits include improved electricity affordability, energy and network security and the connection of renewable energy needed to meet Australia’s carbon emissions targets.

Other prominent topics and projects to be discussed over the 2-day conference include the Gawler line electrification, Adelaide Tarcoola Rail Upgrade Acceleration Project, Oaklands Crossing Grade Separation Project alongside projects covering defence, energy, housing, water and planning.

The event continues to be the largest major projects and infrastructure conference in the state, attracting close to 150 delegates each year. The conference is an opportunity for industry leaders and government officials to share ideas on common challenges and acquire the latest information on major infrastructure projects shaping the development of South Australia. The SA Major Projects Conference will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre July 30th-July 31st.
