Docklands will soon be the home of five new high rise towers after Minister for Planning Richard Wynne revealed that Lendlease had been granted approval for their $1.2 billion Collins Wharf development.
After extensive consultation with the State Government and local communities, five new residential apartment towers will be built, with each tower restricted to a height limit of 85-metres.
Over 3000 workers will work on the Collins Wharf development over the next eight years, with 1500 apartments expected to be built within the towers, accommodating an estimated 3500 workers and residents when complete.
Every apartment will boast water views, with the towers set to will include a range of one, two and three bedroom apartments, whilst luxurious homes will be built along Collins Street.
Each apartment will be built with light, storage, ventilation and enough room to fit beds and fridges as a result of the State Government’s Better Apartments Design Standards update, released in 2016.
Minister for Planning Richard Wynne is excited by the development, and hopes that it helps transform the Docklands area into an area fit for growing communities.
“This exciting new development will create thousands of jobs and transform the Victoria Harbour precinct of the Docklands into a vibrant residential community with park space to enjoy the great outdoors.
“Parklands and open space are the key to happy and healthy communities. We’ve worked with the developer to ensure public space sits at the heart of this development.
“This is a carefully considered planning decision, ensuring we continue to create living options and affordable housing opportunities – but not at the expense of the city’s great appeal,” said the Minister.
The development also includes plans for five new public parks. One of these parks has been labelled as an Eco Park, which will include a unique floating wetland. Another park will connect the development to the Yarra River with a walking trail.
