Transporting Victoria Forward

THURSDAY DECEMBER 20, 2018

Highlighting priority projects from across the state, the Victorian Transport Infrastructure Conference is set to return to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for its 11th edition on the 1st & 2nd of May 2019.

With the impending population boom on everyone’s mind, Victoria is targeting key development areas that will best address the growing needs of citizens. Tackling imperative transport infrastructure projects, one road, rail and ramp at a time, the returning conference will host new and returning experts to speak on projects in the pipeline or underway.

Chief Executive Officer of Melbourne’s West Gate Tunnel Authority Peter Sammut will provide attendees with a project update on the West Gate Tunnel Project, a much-needed alternative to the WG Bridge. With the addition of four more lanes on the WG Freeway, the creation of twin tunnels under Yarraville and a new bridge over Maribyrnong River, travel times will be cut by up to 20 minutes with the added bonus of lessened congestion.

Returning speaker David Clements, Program Director – Major Projects Victoria for Transurban, will also touch on the West Gate Tunnel Project whilst additionally covering Transurban’s commitment to making Victorian roads safer, faster and smarter through such structures as the CityLink Tulla Widening.

In a bid to better serve the community the Major Road Projects Authority is addressing the needs of many through the delivery of high priority road projects. Chief Executive Officer of MRPA, Allen Garner, will provide a keynote presentation at the address.

Brendan Pauwels, A/Program Director for Metro Projects Central & Eastern at the Major Road Projects Authority will speak about Victoria’s first continuous flow intersection. Aimed at improving traffic flow along Hoddle Street, the project will also improve commuter travel time via public transport and cycling and pedestrian connectivity. Pauwels will also focus on the specific objectives faced by this unique project, along with the challenges encountered whilst developing it.

A panel discussion devoted to the congestion experienced on bustling roads will delve into the opportunities and roadblocks that may accompany the anticipated surge in Victoria’s population; by 2050 Melbourne’s population is expected to reach 8 million. The panel will explore how to receive sustainable results, perhaps by establishing accessible and comprehensive transport infrastructure that will best serve the state economically, environmentally and efficiently.

With Bryce Prosser, General Manager – Public Policy & Corporate Affairs of RACV, Craig Richards, CEO of Bicycle Network, Peter Anderson, CEO of Victorian Transport Association and Cr Nicolas Frances Gilley, Councillor from the City of Melbourne participating, this panel discussion will explore the requirements of particular communities to determine the necessity of major projects in the locale and which projects should be greenlit to keep the state shifting forward.

The 11th Annual Victorian Transport Infrastructure Conference 2019 will once again showcase senior level experts from across Victoria, highlighting major transport infrastructure projects in the pipeline or currently underway. With hours of networking opportunities also on the agenda, attendees are guaranteed to experience an informative and productive two days.
