Queensland Transport Infrastructure Conference is returning for its 13th edition in May 2024, with a major focus on the development of transport infrastructure

FRIDAY MARCH 15, 2024

The Queensland Government is making preparations to accommodate the increased need for transport services as the state's population is expected to reach 6 million in 2027. The upcoming conference will focus on transport infrastructure investments happening in the State.

Sally Stannard, Director-General of the Department of Transport and Main Roads, will be delivering a keynote address. Graeme Newton, Chief Executive Officer of the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority, will provide the latest updates on the Cross River Rail project.

Andrew Wheeler, the Regional Director for the South Coast in the Department of Transport and Main Roads, will provide updates on transport infrastructure projects happening in that area. Samantha Abeydeera, Head of Transport for Brisbane at the Brisbane City Council, will provide updates on the Brisbane Metro project.

The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program will construct 65 new six-car passenger trains at a purpose-built manufacturing facility in the Maryborough region's Torbanlea. Peter Gill, Program Director for the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP), will provide an update on the program. During the conference, there will be a panel discussion on tackling congestion in Queensland.

In 2023, the Queensland Transport and Logistics Council (QTLC) started a review into Oversize Overmass (OSOM) transport arrangements for wind farms at the request of multiple stakeholders across the supply chain. This was due to the predicted increase in these once-infrequent OSOM transport moves as Queensland moves to clean energy. The report contains 12 recommendations across key areas such as permits, technology and data, escorts, infrastructure, planning and investment, and stakeholder coordination. Lauren Hewitt, CEO of the Queensland Transport and Logistics Council, will provide an update on the review.

Transurban Queensland completed a four-year project last year, consolidating four independent and geographically dispersed traffic control rooms in South East Queensland into a single, state-of-the-art Network Operations Centre that manages 82kms of roads and tunnel operations across Brisbane. They also transitioned to a single provider approach for incident response and maintenance services. Angelo Lambrinos, General Manager Assets Queensland, will speak about how Transurban has revolutionized road operations and maintenance using the latest traffic management technology, predictive analytics, and machine learning to improve flexibility, resilience, collaboration, and incident response capability across its entire Brisbane toll road network.
