IAQ Supports Queensland’s Foremost Infrastructure Conference

The 2016 Queensland Infrastructure Project Conference is set to bring nationwide industry innovators together from the 25th to the 26th of October featuring over 150 delegates in attendance as well as a wide array of experts and speakers presenting a comprehensive overview of the latest projects in development across Queensland.
Association of Queensland (IAQ) is set to support the 2016 QLD Infrastructure Projects Conference as Association Partners. Speaking to conference organiser Expotrade Global recently, IAQ CEO Steve Abson said he sees the event as an integral platform for forging closer relationships between the business sector and government bodies, creating value for taxpayers and learning about developments in the region.
With infrastructure booming in the lead up to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (GC2018), the Director of the Medical Research Commercialisation Fund and Ambassador for Life Sciences Queensland, Hon Chairman Peter Beattie, will discuss developments on the $122 million Carrara Sports Precinct project which will form the backbone of this world class event.
Mr Abson anticipates the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games to be a major focus at this year’s event. “With the excitement of the Rio Olympics subsiding and the inevitable post games economic scrutiny, it’ll be interesting to hear Peter Beattie’s take on how we optimise the social impact of Commonwealth Games investment”.
Preparation for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games is a major feature on Queensland’s infrastructure horizon with a total of $320 million invested in venues infrastructure ahead of the Games, including $154 million in Commonwealth Government funding. To accommodate the more than 6600 athletes and officials set to hit the Gold Coast in approximately 19 months’ time, a number of significant urban renewal project are underway.
The Carrara Sports Precinct project, as discussed by Hon Chairman Peter Beattie at the conference, will see new and upgraded facilities implemented to meet the needs of both a range of elite and community sporting groups. As the signature venue precinct for GC2018, the venue will host the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and is scheduled for completion in early 2017.
Renewable energy projects feature prominently on the program as Australia debates renewable energy ventures, jobs and investments in the sector. The Barcaldine Regional Community Solar Farm and Coopers Gap Wind Farm projects form a decisive move towards renewable infrastructure solutions.
IAQ’s Mr Abson said he was looking forward to learning more about the renewable energy projects at Barcaldine and Coopers Gap. “I find the current Australian debate around renewable energy levels and our broader energy mix very interesting” said Mr Abson.
Mr Abson projects that the future of infrastructure depends on a better and deeper understanding of the public’s attitude and relationship to the industry.
“The Conference can help the industry shift its language to being more customer-focused with the resulting benefit of being better able to explain our funding choices in simple, easily understood language”.
