DED Pledges Support to GCC Manufacturing Excellence Summit

  • ‘GCC Manufacturing Excellence and Technology Summit’ will be held 14-15 November
  • DED and Expotrade sign MoU to promote Summit among stakeholder groups

The Department of Economic Development (DED) has extended its support to the ‘GCC Manufacturing Excellence and Technology Summit,’ announced Expotrade, the organisers of the event that will be held 14 -15 November 2016 at Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa. The Summit will focus on the different methods to effectively manage the challenges in achieving operational efficiency and excellence in manufacturing.

Engineer Saed Al Awadi, CEO of Dubai Exports, the export promotion agency of DED, and Mr Brad Hariharan, Regional Director of Expotrade Middle East, signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of His Excellency Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of DED, to jointly promote the event among the various stakeholder groups, including manufacturers, traders, exporters and technology solutions providers.

“The ‘GCC Manufacturing Excellence and Technology Summit’ is well-aligned with the approach adopted by Dubai Exports in enabling manufacturers and exporters in the UAE to leverage the regulatory and infrastructure frame work at home to emerge as global players. Excellence and innovations in manufacturing are key to Dubai making successful inroads into the growing number of promising markets in its vicinity,” commented Al Awadi.

The content of the GCC Manufacturing Excellence and Technology Summit has been so designed to help manufacturers and potential investors learn about effective ways to manage challenges relating to operational efficiency and excellence in the manufacturing industry. The presentation will provide insights on how technology and business excellence can play a crucial part in educating investors on knowledge-based, innovative and sustainable practices in line with the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030.

Hamda Mohammed Bin Kalban, Senior Consultant, Policy & Strategy, Socioeconomic Development Department in the Executive Council will deliver a presentation on the first day of the summit that will provide a broad outline of Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030 that presents a strategic roadmap to transform the emirate into a hub for sustainable industrial activities.

The summit will witness Dr. Robin Scott, Head of Virtual Reality and Modelling Group, AMRC with Boeing; Stefano Pietroni, Global Network Design, Planning & Sourcing Vice President, Barilla; Dr. Souraj Salah, Business Process Improvement Manager, Juma Al Majid Group amongst many others delivering presentations on topics including an overview of the history and culture behind one of the UK's leading manufacturing research centres, manufacturing as a driver towards knowledge-based economy for the UAE, customer-driven supply chain operation and thoughts on process and quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.

The Summit will gather over 600 senior level delegates from the manufacturing sector based in the UAE and from across the globe.
