Bringing NSW's infrastructure into the 21st Century

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 23, 2017

The NSW region will receive a massive sum of $73 billion towards infrastructure, with $12.1 billion of that being allocated to Sydney’s public transport systems. Other projects cover sectors comprising motorway development, healthcare, more sustainable and affordable housing and to create a more liveable NSW. These topics will be featured at the upcoming 9th Annual NSW Major Projects Conference 2017 on the 14th and 15th of November.

In an attempt to accommodate the future needs of a growing population, the State Government is planning to upgrade various transport sectors. A key focus of this plan, and of the Major Projects agenda, is rail transport. Key project topics and speakers regarding this include Tom Gellibrand from Transport for NSW with updates on the Sydney Metro and Simon Thomas, the ARTC Programme Director for Inland Rail summarising the latest project updates. Also on the agenda is Transport for NSW Sydney Light Rail Delivery Office’s Project Director Andrew Summers, who will be discussing the Sydney CBD and Southeast Light Rail project; last is Transport for NSW Parramatta Light Rail’s Program Director, Tim Poole, explaining the benefits and project overview of the Parramatta Light Rail.

Another major focus at both the upcoming conference and for the State Government is the development of NSW motorways. Zooming in on infrastructure projects in the Western region of Sydney will be Sydney Motorway Corporation’s Chief Executive, Dennis Cliche, discussing the WestConnex’s project updates and the legacy it will leave. Next on the agenda is Marg Prendergast, Sydney’s Coordinator General for Transport for NSW, talking on how to coordinate these projects and how to keep Sydney moving in the meantime. Behind these various infrastructure projects is the aim for improving liveability in NSW.

Another topic of highlight in the State Budget will be Sydney and NSW’s housing affordability. With a panel discussion dedicated to this issue, delegates will be privy to an expert dialogue featuring Dr. Andrew Wilson, Chief Economist of Domain Group; Jane Fitzgerald, NSW Executive Director of Property Council Australia;, and Paul Bloxham, Chief Economist of HSBC.  The group will examine rising housing prices, how to tackle affordability and the future of housing in Australian cities.

All of these topics and more regarding NSW’s major infrastructure projects will be discussed at the upcoming 9th Annual NSW Major Projects Conference 2017 on November 14th and 15th at Sydney’s International Convention Centre. At the event delegates will get the chance to network with other government policymakers and experts from the private sector, all while learning from over 25 exceptional speakers.
